Supporting the ADHD Brain: Embracing Energy and Insight
If your child’s mind seems to move at a thousand miles per hour, or if they struggle to find their footing in a traditional classroom setting, they aren't "unmotivated" or "difficult." They simply have a brain that is wired for high engagement, deep curiosity, and a different kind of rhythm.
What is ADHD?
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is often a misleading name. It isn't necessarily a lack of attention, but rather a challenge in regulating where that attention goes. I view ADHD as an interest-based nervous system. It’s a brain that thrives on novelty, passion, and movement, even if it struggles with the mundane details of a "one-size-fits-all" world.
My Philosophy: Working With the Brain, Not Against It
In this space, we don’t view ADHD as a problem to be medicated away or a set of behaviors to be punished. Instead, we see it as a vibrant way of being that requires a specific set of "navigation tools." My approach is always:
Affirming, Not Correcting: I don’t believe in "fixing" your child’s energy. We work on understanding how their brain works so they can feel proud of their unique way of thinking.
Radically Flexible: If your child needs to pace, fidget, or sit on the floor during our sessions, that’s great. I meet them exactly where they are, adjusting my style to match their energy in the moment.
Built for Autonomy: We focus on helping your child find systems that actually work for them, rather than forcing them to use planners or routines that feel like a cage.
How We Build the "ADHD Toolbox"
Our work focuses on empowering your child to take the lead in their own life. We move away from "shoulds" and focus on what feels functional and empowering.
Executive Functioning Support: We find creative ways to handle transitions, organization, and focus that honor your child’s natural flow.
Emotional Regulation: ADHD often comes with "big feelings." We work on recognizing these emotions early and finding healthy, affirming ways to process them.
Strengths Discovery: We spend time leaning into your child’s "hyperfocus" and creativity, using their natural interests as the bridge to learning new skills.
Self-Advocacy: I help your child find the words to tell teachers, coaches, and peers what they need to succeed.
